Model and reality TV star Poonam Pandey announced on Saturday that she is alive, a day after her team announced that she had died of cervical cancer.
In a video on her Instagram account, she clarified that the fake death announcement was an effort to start a conversation and spread awareness about cervical cancer.
She apologized to her fans and said, “I’m sorry for causing such fear and for those I hurt. What was my intention? It was to shock everyone into a conversation we don’t have enough of.” “It’s cervical cancer. Yes, I faked my death, I know it’s extreme. But all of a sudden we’re all talking about cervical cancer, right? It’s killing your life. It’s a disease that steals silently. And this disease urgently needed the spotlight. I’m proud of what the news of my death has brought. ”
In another clip she said: Cervical cancer didn’t cost me, but tragically it has claimed the lives of thousands of women because of a lack of knowledge about how to deal with this disease. ”
However, her announcement sparked mixed reactions on the internet, with some labeling it the “worst publicity stunt ever”, while others used it as an opportunity to share funny memes.
Famous YouTuber Ashish Chankrani shared Paresh Rawal meme on X (formerly Twitter) with overlay text.Main mar bi jata na, to bi nahi marta [Even if I were to die, I wouldn’t actually die]”.
