YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown State University Foundation sent a letter this month to those who may be affected by suspicious activity detected by a web-based fundraising company contracted by the Foundation.
On February 2, DonorPerfect notified Foundation Administrators that it had discovered suspicious activity related to a subsection of hosted file storage.
The foundation, made aware of the data security incident that occurred at DonorPerfect, sent letters to those who may have been affected, the news release states.
“At the YSU Foundation, we take the privacy and security of personal information very seriously,” the release states.
DonorPerfect took immediate steps to identify, contain, and remediate the issue, including locking down systems and enhancing security protocols.
According to the release, as soon as DonorPerfect discovered this incident, it took security measures and took steps to strengthen its network security and minimize the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future. The company also notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local law enforcement and said it will continue to cooperate with any investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable.
DonorPerfect has arranged to provide credit monitoring services to all affected individuals through IDX, a leader in consumer identity protection. These services include 12 months of credit monitoring, identity protection with CyberScan, a $1 million identity fraud loss protection policy, and fully managed identity theft recovery services.
