Social media has been moved by a British woman’s posthumous message announcing her death from cancer.
Daniela T., from Leeds, UK, is a human resources (HR) professional whose posts on LinkedIn have made the world aware of her life, her struggles with illness, and her approach to life.
“If you are reading this, it means that I have passed away from my battle with cancer and my family is posting a final message on my behalf,” she wrote.
“First of all, I would like to say that not all cancers are caused by lifestyle choices; sometimes they are genetic, and sometimes, unfortunately, they just happen.”
Daniela had cholangiocarcinoma, a rare but aggressive form of cancer caused by DNA changes in the bile duct system. By the time the disease is detected in some patients, it is already too late and there is little chance of a successful cure.
But she wasn’t one to let that happen in order to live life to the fullest.
“I can’t control what happens to me, but I can control how I react. Even though I was so devastated, I chose to spend every moment I had left, rather than mourning the lives that were being lost. I decided to have fun,” Daniela said.
“Everything I’ve achieved has been everything I ever wanted. I love my job, my fiancé, my family, my friends, my dog, the house we’re buying, and the future we’re building for ourselves. ” Daniela wrote.
She concluded by thanking everyone she passed who had a positive impact on her life, and quoting Winnie the Pooh.
“If there’s a tomorrow when we’re not together, there’s one thing you always have to remember: You’re braver than you think, stronger than you look, smarter than you think. But… The most important thing is that even if we’re apart…we’ll always be together!”
