Who has the best 5G in Australia? The latest results may surprise you

Across Australia, 5G coverage and availability varies greatly depending on where you are and which carriers are available in your area. In Australia, three telcos are leading the charge: Optus, Telstra and Vodafone, and they’ve all scored some pretty commendable results in recent surveys. report.

The report was conducted by independent communications analyst Opensignal, which examines the overall mobile network experience and analyzes data from millions of Australians (and their devices) every quarter. Opensignal collected the results presented in the October report from July 2023 to September 2023.

The resulting results are quite surprising to say the least, with each carrier leading in different categories, making it difficult to determine the “best” provider throughout the process. . Here’s how carriers stack up, with new categories including 5G availability, regional coverage, and 5G “experience.”

Winners in 5G availability, regional coverage, and more

Vodafone has managed to fend off and beat the competition when it comes to 5G availability. Since the report last April, the mobile operator has enhanced 5G availability across the five regions analyzed. (His 5G data for mobile phone providers in the Northern Territory and Tasmania was not recorded.)

While some may think that 5G availability is related to coverage, Opensignal says this metric refers to the amount of time you stay connected to a 5G signal after your initial connection is established. According to the data, Vodafone users remained connected 39.7% of the time, an increase of 8.9% from the previous report. Meanwhile, Telstra users experienced their 5G connection active 19.1% of the time, while Optus users lagged behind with their 14.5% of the time.

However, Optus beats Vodafone when it comes to 3G/4G availability, with access to the carrier in six of seven regions (excluding the Northern Territory). The provider also shares his three-way understanding of availability in New South Wales and Queensland. Optus and Vodafone were joint winners with 99.2 percentage points, while Telstra was ranked just 0.1 percentage points apart with 99.1 per cent.

Although Opensignal did not reveal why 3G/4G is available, this result suggests that rural and rural areas may have more viable connectivity options and Telstra to access mobile coverage in those areas. We can assume that this means that the dependence on

If you don’t want to worry too much about how long you can maintain a 5G connection and want to know which network offers the fastest speeds, Optus is the obvious choice. The carrier ranks highest overall for 5G download speeds for the fifth time in a row, as users continue to have the fastest downloads on average. Optus’ speeds won him with an average of 226.5Mbps over the three-month monitoring period, followed by Telstra with his 201.9Mbps.

somewhat deceptive results

It’s worth mentioning that despite some of these big wins, the results can actually be quite deceptive. An example of this is that Vodafone achieved success with its 5G availability, but recorded a significant drop in download speeds.

Vodafone outperforms other providers in terms of 5G availability, but only recorded subpar download speeds of 102.5Mbps. Given that these speeds are roughly on par with his 4G mobile connection, the question arises why he would sign up for Vodafone’s his 5G service. . Regardless of availability, 5G coverage ultimately depends on download speeds working at their best.

Unlike its competitors, Optus won the most awards for overall 5G experience in a regional breakdown. This carrier scored 81.7 points for its 5G gaming experience and won in all regions analyzed.

However, Telstra has a strong claim to the overall experience crown, and its results often fall just short of Optus. Comparing availability, Telstra is roughly on par with Optus in terms of individual results.

Ultimately, we recommend looking at these results fairly thoroughly and (carefully) examining provider coverage maps to make a meaningful decision about which provider is best for you.

If you want the best coverage, you might be better off signing up with Telstra. If you want faster speeds, Optus could be a solid choice. Otherwise, if you’re looking for the best way to maintain a stable 5G connection, Vodafone could be your top choice.

After all, no one is perfect and we still have a long way to go to bring 5G to Australia. There’s no clear answer to the question of who has the best 5G mobile experience in Australia, but the best option for you will depend on where you live. that’s right I need security.
