5G networks are emerging in Australia, but not everyone has access to them yet. This is not unique to Australia. Although 5G has been introduced in some countries, the coverage is still a fraction of 4G.
For those who aren’t familiar, 5G is the next upgrade in mobile networks after 4G. It is many times faster than 4G and opens up many new opportunities such as smart cities, farms, and untethered AR and VR experiences.
The three big names to watch for 5G in Australia are Optus, Telstra and Vodafone. The services available to you depend on where you live and whether you need mobile service or his 5G internet at home.
optus
One of the providers is Optus, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the country. In November 2019, we began offering both mobile 5G solutions and fixed wireless access (FWA) 5G. At launch, it had more than 290 5G sites in Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
Optus enabled a standalone 5G network in a limited trial in late 2021 and secured four 3.7GHz parcels in a spectrum auction in late 2023, boosting connectivity in regions such as the Gold Coast .
Order 5G home broadband with uncapped speeds for $89/month. We also have smaller plans available.

telstra
Before 2019, Telstra already had more than 200 5G-enabled mobile sites in all major Australian cities, as well as less popular locations. Of the thousands of sites currently in operation, over 3,000 suburbs and 200 cities and towns including Queensland, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Melbourne, Tasmania, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart, Launceston and Toowoomba. Covered. The goal is to reach he 95% of the population by mid-2025.

The company launched 5G home services at the end of 2020. Shortly after, we doubled the included monthly data limit from 500 GB to 1 TB. By the end of 2021, his 5G home & business internet will be launched with download speeds of up to 600 Mbps.
vodafone
In 2019, Vodafone partnered with Nokia to bring 5G to Vodafone Hutchison Australia customers. The service was launched in 2020. The first areas to roll out 5G included Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Central Coast and Geelong.

Australian MVNO Network
If you receive service from a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), you probably already have access to 5G because they purchase access from other carriers.
For example, Woolworths’ Everyday Mobile, Boost Mobile, Belong and ALDImobile are on the Telstra network. KISA and Kogan Mobile are powered by Vodafone. amaysim, Exetel, and iPrimus use the Optus mobile network.
