Verizon today notified customers of an impending rate increase of $4 per month per line.
This increase goes into effect on March 1, 2024 and affects several plans:
- Play Unlimited More, Play Unlimited More, Get Unlimited More
- Play More Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband, Play More Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband, Get More Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband
- Start with 5G, Play More with 5G, Do More with 5G, Do More with 5G
The carrier used a familiar line to explain the move. This will enable Verizon to “continuously improve our industry-leading mobile network and services,” Verizon said in an email to customers.
Verizon is softening the blow by adding 5GB of additional hotspot data. This will apply to all affected plans at the same time as the price increase. No additional changes are planned, so subscribers can continue to enjoy his Verizon benefits, including trade-in sales, one Travel Pass Day per month, and Verizon Cloud storage provided as part of the plan.
The move comes after AT&T raised prices by $0.99 per line last week. We’ve also added more hotspot data. 2 GB for Unlimted Starter SL plans, 15 GB for Unlimited Extra EL plans, and an additional 10 GB for Unlimited Premium PL plans.
The trend now seems to be to increase prices in exchange for more hotspot data. T-Mobile did something similar late last year with a $5 monthly price hike, but backlash forced it to abandon the plan.
