The expansion of private 5G at Port of Virginia terminals highlights the scalability and applicability of Verizon’s private 5G network in data-rich industrial environments.
new york – Verizon Business and Norfolk International Terminal (NIT) today announced an agreement to build a Verizon Private 5G network at its Virginia facilities, following the successful deployment of Verizon Private 5G at the adjacent Virginia International Terminal (VIT). did. NIT and VIT are both terminals within the Port of Virginia, highlighting the scalability of private 5G networks to meet unique connectivity demands across complex, data-rich environments.
The private 5G network covers 270 acres of the NIT campus with dedicated ultra-wideband spectrum, replaces unreliable outdoor WiFi, and provides secure, instant voice on campus via Verizon Push to Talk Plus (PTT). Enables text and data communication. PTT is the perfect mobile app for industrial and commercial collaboration across phones, smartphones, and tablets over the Verizon Private Network.
NIT’s dedicated ultra-wideband spectrum and private network infrastructure provides benefits and continuous use, such as drones, self-driving trucks and mobile cranes for safety and surveillance, and cost savings by reducing downtime and increasing operational efficiency. It also meets the throughput, reliability, and latency thresholds required for reduction.
“The expansion of Verizon’s private 5G presence in the Port of Virginia is an opportunity for businesses to modernize their operations with new technology by starting small, demonstrating the right use cases and applications for their business, and then scaling up further.” It shows what can be done and improved,” said Verizon Business CEO Kyle Maredi. “Through its private 5G journey at VIT and NIT, the Port of Virginia exemplifies how cutting-edge technology can be deployed to transform businesses efficiently and productively.”
“Working with Verizon Business was a true partnership in both building the application and deploying the solution that best suited our unique needs,” said NIT/Port of Virginia Senior Technology and Products Director said Rich Ceci, Vice President. “Delivery terminals are rugged, ever-changing outdoor environments that require highly reliable and ubiquitous connectivity for secure and adaptable operations. It gives us the flexibility to scale up and add more features.”
Ericsson will be the sole product vendor to Verizon for NIT’s network construction.
With an annual throughput of 2.2 million TEU and direct access to rail and interstate systems, NIT is one of the largest commercial transportation hubs in the United States. The terminal is currently undergoing several optimization programs to enhance its semi-automation capabilities, create additional cargo carrying capacity, and further address the need for reliable and ubiquitous connectivity on-site. It’s increasing. As device operations continue to be optimized, Verizon Private 5G provides the connectivity foundation to adopt new sensor technologies, machine learning and intelligence applications, inventory management, and more.
