According to a report by a third-party committee, Toyota Industries falsified the flow rate flowing into the fuel injection system during engine output tests in order to make the engine’s torque, or crankshaft rotational force, appear higher than it actually was.
The company announced that inspections of all industrial engines currently produced by Toyota Industries revealed data fraud, and that it had suspended shipments of the affected products.
Toyota Motor Corporation was separated from Toyota Industries in the late 1930s, and Toyota Industries remains one of the company’s largest shareholders, holding an 8.82% stake as of the end of September 2023.
