DUBAI, United Arab Emirates /PRNewswire/ — With its grand opening in Dubai on January 29, the 49th Arab Health will be held until February 1, 2024. Shanghai MicroPort Medbot (Group) Co., Ltd. (“MedBot™”) attended the meeting. using the Toumai™ 4-arm laparoscopic surgical robot (Toumai™). During the exhibition, Toumai™ completed the world’s first cross-border verification of his 5G ultra-remote simulated surgery spanning approximately 7,000 kilometers from Shanghai, China to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This achievement demonstrated the Toumai™ stable, reliable, and safe remote surgery system. We drive global development trends and industry transformation in minimally invasive surgery, bringing new healthcare options to patients around the world through continuous innovation.
During the exhibition, many local medical institution managers, as well as medical professionals and academics from around the world visited our booth. During the validation, the staff controlled his Toumai™ patient cart at the Dubai booth via the surgeon’s console in Shanghai and performed precise and smooth surgical movements such as incision, traction, clamping, cutting and suturing. Despite a distance of nearly 7,000 kilometers and the use of only a small 5G SIM card, the simulated surgery proceeded without any signal or operational delays. The various surgical operations were nearly synchronized, and communication between the two locations was smooth and well-coordinated.
In the field, validation of the remote simulation surgery revealed that the robotic arm and flexible instruments operated stably and provided clear visibility throughout the process. The effect of cutting and suturing was indistinguishable from local surgery. Even in a normal 5G network environment, the Toumai™ robot has demonstrated accurate identification, precise dissection, and meticulous cutting ability, fully demonstrating system stability, robotic arm precision, and instrument dexterity. I showed it.
To date, Toumai™ has conducted more than 100 human clinical remote surgeries in multiple departments, covered nearly 30 cities in China, and connected more than 30 hospitals. A series of surgeries, including the longest distance surgery of more than 5,000 kilometers, more than 70 surgeries of level 3 and 4 complexity, and more than 10 consecutive surgeries, including multiple consecutive surgeries of level 4 complexity, such as radical prostatectomy. Achieved a groundbreaking record. 15 records of the world’s first remote surgeries.
