We used to be a country, a decent country…
What happened to our nation’s once great refrigerator? When this invention first appeared in the early 1900s, it was a complete game changer. Iceboxes were no longer needed as giant rectangular cooling boxes (refrigerators) became a staple in every kitchen.
Based on this 1956 ad, refrigerator manufacturers prided themselves on creating refrigerators that were both practical and effective. Today’s mass-produced refrigerators seem to have lost the brightness and intuitiveness that refrigerators once had.
Check out this 1956 refrigerator and all the innovative features it comes with.
Are you thinking what I’m thinking too?
Actually, I’m thinking about a lot of things (one of them is the question of why modern refrigerators are so boring), but the main idea that stuck with me after watching this clip is: beer in the garage That’s how perfect the refrigerator is. It would be so.
Imagine hooking it up to your old one- or two-car garage (attached or detached) and showing off your beer collection to the guys you’re drinking garage beer with. please try.
If you can utilize the above refrigerator as a dedicated and all-important beer cooling system, you’ll be the talk of the town, or at least your neighborhood. The only part of the refrigerator that isn’t suitable for garage beer is the butter storage section. Maybe you could stuff a koozie in there? It might work…
Everything else is just perfect. The storage area on the tall side of the door is perfect for bottles, tall boys, and regular-sized canned goods. What about a removable vegetable storage container with a door? You can also dedicate it to craft beer.
Think stuffed with craft beer. When your guests ask what you have, you can pull out the bad boy and have them peruse the contents like a Rolodex of beer.
And don’t even get me started on the pull-out shelves. A very unique feature, perfect for storing beer and alcohol. No more moving things around to get the beer skis from the back of the fridge. You can expand that shelf and pick and choose what you want (replenishment is also easy).
As for the freezer section, it seems like the perfect place to put a cold mug, and it always compliments the beer, no matter the quality. Then, get yourself a nifty ice cube tray. This is the perfect setup for yourself (or your guests) when making cocktails on the rocks.
It’s really a shame that refrigerator companies don’t make products like this anymore. They could bring back this style of refrigerator and make a lot of money, especially if they sell it as a “garage beer holder.” Sure, you can get some pretty high-tech refrigerators these days, but they cost upwards of $100,000.
It’s just an idea and I’d like some credit if it ever comes to fruition (I’m looking at you “big fridge” industry).
