T-Mobile has achieved another 5G milestone by recording the fastest uplink speed ever for a 5G standalone network in North America.
In recent testing, T-Mobile achieved impressive upload speeds of 345 Mbps using spectrum below 6 GHz. This breaks the company’s previous record of 275 Mbps.
This incredible speed is made possible thanks to a new technology called UL Tx switching. This technology enables seamless switching between different frequencies, increasing capacity and speed. By combining UL Tx switching with other cellular technologies such as carrier aggregation and SU-MIMO, T-Mobile can create more “lanes” to transmit data between devices and the network faster than ever before. created.
said Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology at T-Mobile.
“Uplink transmit switching has the potential to significantly improve upload speeds and capacity, and we implore our partners around the world to build that capability into the upcoming 5G ecosystem.”
Faster upload speeds are important as 5G enables more data-intensive use cases such as content creation, remote collaboration, gaming, and augmented reality (XR). T-Mobile collaborated with Qualcomm and Nokia on this achievement.
“We are proud to work with T-Mobile to achieve another important 5G milestone,” said Durga Maradi, senior vice president and general manager of Technology Planning & Edge Solutions at Qualcomm.
“Switched uplinks have the potential to reach these incredible upload speeds by intelligently and dynamically using the TDD and FDD spectrum within the device. It meets the growing demand for applications, devices, and use cases such as smartphones, fixed wireless access, and mobile broadband.”
T-Mobile’s 5G network covers more than 330 million people across 2 million square miles. More than 300 million people across the country have access to ultra-fast mid-band Ultra Capacity 5G.
“Together with our long-term partner T-Mobile, we are delivering on this significant and important accomplishment that will enhance the uplink speeds and capacity of America’s largest and fastest 5G network, delivering an even better experience. We are proud of what we have achieved,” said Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia.
“By working closely with our partners, we can push the boundaries of what is possible with 5G.”
