(TNS) — After a stormy night, Spokane Public Schools experienced a system-wide outage of its internet and phone networks Monday.
District spokesman Ryan Lancaster said the network at the downtown district office likely experienced a power surge after Sunday night’s storm. The power surge affected the entire district, knocking out phone and internet service in the district, which is home to about 60 facilities.
School phones remained operational until after school, but internet had not yet been restored at some schools as the district repaired its network.
Staff used hotspots and text messages to send messages to families.
Mr Lancaster said if parents are unable to attend school during the day, they can use the Let’s Talk app, call the district office or visit the school in person.
Professor Lancaster said that in schools without internet access, pupils were learning in the “old-fashioned way”, “from books and such”.
