South Central Power Company, a leading electric cooperative, announced the completion of the first phase of its innovative high-speed fiber internet service network, connectSCP. connectSCP is committed to serving our member-owners and aims to close the digital gap across rural Ohio.

The first phase of connectSCP will bring fiber internet to the New Market area of Highland and Adams counties, with the Somerton area of Belmont County to follow soon. The 30-month project will connect more than 2,500 homes and businesses, delivering symmetrical speeds starting at 500 Mbps through fiber-to-the-home technology.
Tom Musick, Vice President of Engineering and Broadband at South Central Power, emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative, saying, “This is a huge step forward for people who have traditionally been unserved or underserved. “This will be a game-changer for these communities, which will attract remote workers and enhance telehealth services and online education.” , fostering overall economic development and allowing families to enjoy the best streaming, gaming, and online communication from home. ”
The cooperative’s efforts are supported by a grant from Broadband Ohio, a state-sponsored broadband expansion program. South Central Power has secured large grants totaling $98,041,000 for projects in 14 counties in southwestern and eastern Ohio.
To commemorate this milestone, connectSCP, in partnership with the Highland Chamber of Commerce, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 22 at the Cooperative Office in Hillsboro.
