SK Telecom (SKT), Docomo, NTT, and Nokia today announced the launch of 6G AI Native Air Interface (AI-AI), a key next-generation technology that has the potential to significantly improve network performance while improving energy efficiency. We announced that we cooperated in the development. The four companies will be demonstrating their AI-AI proof of concept at the SKT booth at Mobile World Congress next week.
The proof-of-concept 6G AI-AI system will be tested using selected use cases and real-world environment scenarios. These wireless validation tests are conducted both in the laboratory and outdoors to best simulate real-world network results. SKT, NTT, Docomo, and Nokia will work together to improve the performance of AI models by leveraging data generated through real networks and simulations.
By working together, SKT, Docomo, NTT and Nokia will be able to integrate their research activities and offer core areas of expertise.
Yu Takki, SKT Vice President and Head of Infrastructure Technology
This milestone marks a significant step forward in a joint effort to develop 6G core technology involving technology leaders from South Korea, Japan, Europe and the United States. SKT will maintain the momentum of its research and development efforts in applying AI technology to network infrastructure as it moves towards becoming a global AI company.
Mr. Takaaki Sato, Managing Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer, Docomo
Docomo and NTT are pleased to collaborate with Nokia, the world’s leading global vendor, and SKT, jointly the leading mobile operator in Asia, to advance this project. Through this collaboration, we will lead the innovative technology development and standardization of 6G, and focus on building a global ecosystem that includes future industries and technologies.
Peter Vetter, Director of Core Research, Nokia Bell Labs
For Nokia to build a world-class 6G system, it will be important to get input from the service providers who will one day deploy 6G. SKT, NTT and Docomo are among the world’s most innovative service providers, making them the perfect partners to design the networks of the future.
