Samsung’s new
One antenna radio is being built to accelerate 5G deployment
Samsung Electronics today announced a new radio designed to help mobile operators overcome the challenges they face in deploying 5G networks. Announced at Samsung Networks: ReDefined, the new One Antenna Radio with integrated antennas provides carriers with 5G support by integrating a 3.5 GHz Massive MIMO radio with low-band and mid-band passive antennas. Provides features that simplify and speed installation. Single form factor.
As carriers continue to expand 5G coverage, a key challenge they face is space and footprint limitations on sites and towers. Samsung’s all-in-one radios meet a variety of environmental and field demands, including ease of installation, space savings, and reduced operator OPEX. This new solution will become part of Samsung’s Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio in early 2022 and will initially target the European market.
The main benefits of Samsung’s One Antenna Radio are:
- Simplify your site: The streamlined solution uses compact hardware that blends into the municipal environment, reducing cabling and hardware elements to minimize visual impact in dense urban areas.
- Easy installation: Eliminating the need to separately install and connect radios and multiple antennas simplifies deployment, speeds installation, and reduces labor costs.
- OPEX savings: Requires less site or tower space and has a smaller footprint, allowing operators to save on costs such as rental and maintenance costs.
Wonil Roh, Senior Vice President and Head of Network Business Product Strategy at Samsung Electronics said: “Recognizing that hardware installation, cabling, and worker field time and space limitations are challenges for most operators, we are committed to addressing this issue and helping you expand the boundaries of your deployment. We have created a solution.”
