Samsung Research America (SRA) has joined Princeton University’s new NextG Corporate Affiliates program, bringing industry and academia together to advance research in 6G wireless networks and related technologies.
The NextG initiative, launched last year within Princeton University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, aims to foster innovation across networking, sensing, and other key areas supporting the next generation of data infrastructure.
As a founding affiliate member, SRA will work closely with Princeton faculty to provide critical insights into real-world needs and applications that can guide academic projects. Other corporate partners include major carriers such as Ericsson, Nokia, and Qualcomm.
“The best academic research that helps realize the potential of future wireless networks comes from close interactions between faculty and industry technology leaders,” said Andrea Goldsmith, dean of Princeton’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. states.
“Our NextG program is designed to foster the close collaboration on wireless technologies and policies needed to drive meaningful innovation and global leadership in a time of rapid change.”
For Samsung, this partnership will support its continued efforts to solidify its leadership in 6G, the successor to the current 5G standard. The company’s Advanced Communications Research Center published his influential 2020 6G White Paper (PDF), followed by his 2022 paper (PDF) focused on future spectrum needs. Published.
“We encourage Princeton researchers to continue innovating and developing potentially disruptive 6G technology,” said Dr. Charlie Chan, SRA senior vice president.
The collaboration follows Samsung’s inaugural 6G Forum conference held in May last year. SRA also chairs a major his 6G standards group, and the company is now in a position to quickly apply Princeton’s insights to broader ecosystem development.
Working with new academic partners, Samsung aims to bring wireless into a new era where 6G promises significantly higher speeds, lower latency, and enhanced capabilities that will enable new mobile applications.
