Samsung Electronics, through its research and development arm Samsung Research America (SRA), is leading the development of 6G wireless and networking systems in collaboration with Princeton University’s NextG initiative.
The partnership between Samsung and Princeton University brings together industry leadership and academic excellence to promote a sustainable future for communications technology.
Launched in 2023 by Princeton University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the NextG initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of new technologies in areas such as cloud and edge networks, intelligent sensing, and network resiliency.
Through the establishment of enterprise-related programs, the initiative fosters important collaborations between academia, industry giants such as Samsung, and policymakers to advance cutting-edge innovation and help global leaders in an era of rapid technological progress. Ensure leadership.
“The best academic research is developed through close interaction with industry leaders. ” Andrea Goldsmith, dean of Princeton University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, explains: “Our NextG program fosters such close collaboration in wireless technology and policy, ultimately leading to meaningful innovation and global leadership in an era of rapid change. ”
SRA works with other industry giants such as Ericsson, Intel, and Qualcomm Technologies to help bridge the gap between academic research and real-world applications.
Dr. Charlie Chan, Senior Vice President of SRA, emphasized:The wireless industry has benefited greatly from basic research over the past several decades. We encourage Princeton researchers to continue their innovative spirit and develop disruptive technologies that have the potential to bring major breakthroughs to 6G. ”
Samsung’s 6G development goals go back even further, with the establishment of the Advanced Communications Research Center (ACRC) in 2019.
Through publications such as the 6G White Paper and the 6G Spectrum White Paper, ACRC has established itself as a leader in shaping 6G innovation. The company further strengthened its position by chairing both ITU-R’s 6G Framework Group and GSA’s Spectrum Group.
The first Samsung 6G Forum, held in May 2022, reiterated the company’s dedication to research and development in this important field.
