“Connecticut Morning Topics” and Host Natasha Lubchenko recently featured an important conversation about digital inclusion, highlighting the essential role of computers and internet access in today’s society.Natasha joins us Tisha Tramontano Kelly, Executive Director of Digital Inclusion CfAL, based in New Haven. She came to talk about her organization’s work and the need to close the digital divide in Connecticut families.
Tisha It highlighted that 90% of individuals served by CfAL do not have access to a computer and 40% do not have an internet connection. This digital divide hinders access to education, employment opportunities, and essential services. CfAL’s mission revolves around providing free technology-based programs and refurbished computers to ensure individuals have the tools they need to succeed in the digital age.
CfAL provides digital literacy and access to communities through partnerships with local nonprofits and support from businesses and donors. Organizations can donate old computers, refurbish them at Microsoft, and give them to participants who don’t have a working computer at home.
CfAL offers free technology programs for youth and adults, including classes and events held several times a month. Viewers are encouraged to explore CfAL’s resources and contact support, emphasizing that internet access is no longer a luxury but a basic necessity.
In a world that is increasingly dependent on technology, initiatives like CfAL are essential to creating equitable access to digital resources and opportunities.
