Former President Donald Trump took to social media on Friday to claim that media outlets used artificial intelligence to create fake photos of the president with giant guts on a golf course.
“Fake News used artificial intelligence (AI) to create the image in the top left,” the 77-year-old President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They’re despicable people, and we all know that.”
The unflattering image is said to be of the former commander-in-chief in swing, his bulging torso pressed tightly against the fabric of his shirt.
However, although the images have been digitally altered, they are not the work of artificial intelligence.
According to fact-checking site Snopes, this is a legitimate photo dating back to 2017 of pro golfer John Daly, a Trump supporter who won the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 British Open Championship. The former president’s head is superimposed on top of the president.
Trump, who publicly weighed 215 pounds after turning himself in to Fulton County authorities last August, posted an actual photo of himself playing golf on Friday in a post on Truth Social “to show the difference.” .
“Sadly, in our country we only get fake news!” he fumed.
It is unclear which media outlets, if any, shared the mashup photo of President Trump and the Daily.
The Trump campaign did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
The 2024 Republican presidential front-runner’s post comes after a New York judge ordered him to pay $355 million and give him $355 million in damages for inflating his net worth by billions to secure loans and deals from banks and insurance companies. The announcement comes shortly after the state ordered a temporary ban on business operations.
