As part of yesterday’s February Pixel update, Google sent new updates to two devices that ended support last year. The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G are getting an update for those who have been waiting for it, even though support was supposed to have ended.
The new build for Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G is UP1A.231105.001.B2. The previous build was UP1A.231105.001, so you can see it has a “B2” at the end. These only fix bugs and don’t provide anything else, including the new February patch. Security patch support for these two Pixel phones ended in November, so this update should leave them both with their previous security patches from November.
These updates certainly surprised me. Google usually issues a final update to a phone after the official support period ends to sort out bugs. However, both of these phones were last updated in November 2023, so it took us three months to send this final build. It’s kind of wild.

And once you update, you should consider upgrading to a new device that still has updates, especially security patches. If you want to stick with your Google Pixel, know that Google has reduced the prices of all its latest smartphones again this week. The Pixel 8 Pro is once again $200 off, starting at $799.
