NEW YORK (WABC) — In this edition of Eyewitness News Extra, we unravel the massive fight over restaurant tips in light of New York State’s latest legislative action.
There is a proposal to force restaurant owners to raise wages for restaurant workers to minimum wage.
Employers say raising the minimum wage is unfair to them.
Eyewitness News reporter Raegan Medgie spoke with several restaurant employees to get their thoughts.
Rep. Jessica González Rojas, a co-sponsor of the bill, also elaborates on the issue.
Why dogs wag their tails
People have always thought that dogs wag their tails because they’re happy.
Until recently, animal researchers say there may be another reason for this well-known gesture.
Taylor Hirsch, a postdoctoral researcher at Oregon State University’s Marine Mammal Research Institute, is an author on a recent study that explains why evolution may have something to do with tail wagging.
Deepfake detection
Elon Musk’s social media platform X has blocked some searches for Taylor Swift after pornographic deepfake images of the singer surfaced online.
Last week, explicit and abusive fake images of Swift began circulating widely on X, making her the most high-profile victim in a scourge that tech platforms and anti-abuse organizations are struggling to solve.
The White House has called the circulation of these AI-generated sexually explicit images “alarming.”
Researchers say the number of blatant “deepfakes” has increased in recent years as the technology used to create these images has become more accessible and easier to use.
