Oukitel WP33 Pro is a 5G phone that can be used while traveling as it supports a large number of frequencies in LTE and 5G range. Practical: Under “Frequencies” on the website, you can see which providers your phone is guaranteed to work with in many countries. During our two-week testing phase, the phone’s reception was consistently at a good level in numerous spot checks, but not up to the level of high-end smartphones.
You can access Wi-Fi networks at speeds up to Wi-Fi 5. There are certainly better equipped and rugged phones out there, such as the Samsung Galaxy XCover 6 Pro and the Nokia XR21. Although a gigabit Internet connection is not actually available on the test device, the device achieved the normal data throughput for its equipment and was very stable during testing.
The system is based on Android 13, and Oukitel hasn’t made any major changes here either, just pre-installing a few proprietary apps and no third-party advertising apps. The security patch is from November 2023 at the time of testing, so it is not completely up to date. Updates are expected to occur sporadically for 3-5 years, but this is not always a reliable statement for buyers.
Not having Widevine certification is annoying. This means that you will not be able to watch his content streaming from major providers in high quality.
If you hold your phone in your hand for a long time, the weight can make your arm tired. However, it’s generally very easy to use, the touchscreen is accurate, and the sensitivity is fine all the way to the corners. There are two hardware buttons for volume control, which are fairly far apart. This is a smart solution as it is easy to operate even with gloves on.
The other hardware buttons are also very large and easy to find. On the left side of the housing there are freely configurable buttons that can be assigned to flashlight or recording, for example. If you prefer, you can also simply launch an app of your choice.
The right side has a standby button and also includes a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone’s biometrics. Unlocking works very reliably and quickly on touch. Conveniently, you can also trigger some special functions by touching the fingerprint sensor if you wish. For example, you can quickly access your home screen or answer a phone call. There’s also facial recognition, which definitely works, but it’s not very secure as it’s purely 2D recognition with the front camera.
