Nokia will provide equipment from its broad AirScale portfolio, which includes massive MIMO radios, baseband, remote radio heads and services.
Nokia has formed a new partnership with Telecom Egypt to bring 5G technology to Egypt for the first time. The partnership aims to change the landscape of Egypt’s communications industry by introducing the transformative power of 5G to cities such as Alexandria, Aswan, Cairo, Giza and Luxor. Nokia will deliver its comprehensive AirScale portfolio to provide Telecom Egypt customers with a better network experience, including faster data speeds, improved performance and capacity. Deployment will begin later this year.
Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment from its AirScale portfolio, consisting of baseband units and the latest generation of Massive MIMO radios. These solutions leverage Nokia’s energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology to deliver extensive 5G capacity and coverage, and ease of deployment. Nokia will also provide a range of professional services, including implementation, integration and network optimization.
5G technology offers numerous benefits, including increased capacity that will enable seamless connectivity in some of Egypt’s most densely populated areas, supporting a wider range of applications and services, delivering faster downloads, smoother streaming and improved network performance.
Earlier this year, Telecom Egypt became the country’s first 15-year 5G license.
Commenting on the agreement, Mohamed Al Fowey, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Telecom Egypt, said: “This new agreement with Nokia further strengthens our strong partnership and reaffirms our commitment to providing cutting-edge digital services, positioning us at the forefront of the 5G revolution. Our customers, both consumers and enterprises, can look forward to enhanced mobile broadband and exciting new applications that leverage the speed and low latency of 5G technology.”
Tommy Witt, president of Nokia Mobile Networks, added: “This important 5G agreement with Telecom Egypt expands our long-standing partnership. The introduction of 5G services, enabled by our broad portfolio, will bring exciting new opportunities for Egyptian people and businesses to experience enhanced mobile connectivity. Our collaboration establishes a strong foundation for driving the country’s digital transformation.”
