When you’re trying to learn something new, finding the right platform or course is never easy. It consists of a lot of trial and error and the worst part is when you pay for them. It can feel like you’re going round and round trying to find the best course to advance your career, only to end up back at square one. And it hurts their own pockets (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot).
That’s why I decided to put together this article. That way, you can learn from my mistakes and gain all your data science knowledge on a budget.
Link: Understanding Data Science
Let’s start with DataCamp, an online learning platform that offers a variety of courses. The Understanding Data Science course is aimed at beginners who want to step into the world of data science. Also, you don’t have to worry about whether you have coding experience or not. Because it’s not necessary.
The 2-hour course consists of 15 learning videos and 48 exercises. It is divided into four sections, the first section “Data Science Overview” is free, and the remaining three sections require membership. Membership prices are reasonable, and membership gives him access to DataCamps’ entire content library, which comes in handy when taking additional courses.
Link: Data Science from Scratch
This is for bookworms who prefer this as a learning method. In Data Science from Scratch, you’ll learn about the field of data science, including libraries, frameworks, modules, and toolkits. We also explain how the algorithms work and how to implement them from scratch.
If you’re looking for a crash course in Python to learn the basics of data science, learn the basics of machine learning, and want to go deeper, this book is for you.
Link: Probability Overview
A 10-week course offered by Harvard University is free! With so many online bootcamp courses, probability can be forgotten. However, it is essential for understanding the fundamentals of data science. Learning probability can take you from being a “good” data scientist to being an “expert” data scientist.
In this course, you will learn about uncertainty and randomness, good predictions, common probability distributions, and more. The course is free, but you can add a verified certificate for $209.
Link: Python overview
Python has been ranked as one of the most popular programming languages for some time, and there’s a reason for that. The simple syntax makes it easy for people to transition into the world of data science. There is a demand for data professionals, and the Python language has definitely paved the way.
This 4th edition “Python in a Nutshell” book consists of 26 chapters and will take you from complete beginner to complete expert in Python. From representing data to debugging in Python, this book has it all.
Link: Data analysis with Python
Freecodecamp.org started as an organization dedicated to making learning accessible to everyone. That’s where its name comes from. If you’re looking for an all-encompassing course, we highly recommend this Data Analysis with Python course. A lot has changed in the world of data science, especially Python, SQL, etc.
In this course, you’ll learn the absolute fundamentals of becoming a data scientist, from reading your own data to analyzing it using libraries and creating data visualizations.
These five courses/platforms will help you build a resume to apply for your first data science role, even if you have no data science experience. Data science continues to be a very popular role and now is the perfect time to start.
