Dallas-based Aligned Data Centers LLC recently filed plans with the City of Plano to construct a large new building to expand its operations in North Texas.
The technology company aims to build a two-story building on 44.3 acres on the west side of North Star Road in East Plano, according to city documents. In addition to construction of the 450,000-square-foot center, a new electrical substation is planned on a 3.4-acre site near the site.
The data center technology company currently operates two buildings on Summit Avenue near Plano Parkway, just north of President George Bush Turnpike. One is 220,000 square feet and the other is over 300,000 square feet.
In January, Aligned Data Centers announced the launch of new cooling technology to support increased facility density. The company has operations in the United States, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and parts of Latin America, including Brazil.
Demand for data centers in Dallas-Fort Worth has skyrocketed in recent years, with Dallas setting a record by absorbing 386MW in 2023. This is the rented capacity minus the available capacity. According to commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield’s year-end report. The vacancy rate for data center space also hit an all-time low of 3.73%, with more than 1.4 million square feet of data center projects underway in DFW at the end of 2023.
Additionally, new data center construction in North Texas, one of the nation’s largest data center markets, continues to grow. In November 2023, Dallas-based Databank raised $533 million to help build new data centers in the region. The deal follows Databank’s approximately $1.6 billion funding announcement earlier last year.
