This announcement follows the companies’ continued efforts to advance network slicing, a market expected to grow by more than 50% annually from 2023 to 2030.1 KDDI and Samsung conducted a field trial in January 2023 and successfully completed service level agreement (SLA) guaranteed network slicing on a live 5G standalone (SA) network in Tokyo, Japan. The companies also demonstrated network slicing using the industry’s first RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) in 2020.
“KDDI is at the forefront of innovation in network slicing and is excited to take another important step with Samsung to demonstrate how this technology can enhance the 5G experience for consumers and businesses. ” said Toshikazu Yokai, Managing Executive Officer and Chief Network Officer. , Deputy General Manager of Technology Division, KDDI Corporation. “Through our strategic partnership, we aim not only to create new and immersive use cases, but also to explore endless possibilities in transforming the industry.”
Network slicing allows you to create multiple virtual networks within a single physical network infrastructure. Each slice is dedicated to a specific application or service and serves a different purpose. For example, an operator can create low-latency slices for self-driving cars, his IoT slices for smart factories, and high-bandwidth slices for live video streaming, all within the same network. This means a single network can simultaneously support a wide range of combinations of use cases, accelerating the delivery of new services and tailoring them to meet different business and consumer needs.
“This new partnership, combining Samsung’s strong technical expertise and KDDI’s business acumen, will help accelerate innovation with a shared commitment to continue evolving 5G to the next level.” Network Business said Juni Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Sales and Marketing. At Samsung Electronics. “We look forward to expanding our collaboration with KDDI to take full advantage of the numerous opportunities that 5G network slicing offers.”
Samsung has successfully pioneered the delivery of 5G end-to-end solutions, including chipsets, radios, and cores. Through continuous research and development, Samsung is driving the industry’s 5G network advancements with a market-leading product portfolio, from vRAN 3.0, Open RAN, Core to private network solutions and AI-powered automation tools. I am. The company currently provides network solutions to mobile phone operators that provide connectivity to hundreds of millions of users around the world.
