iPhone 15 Pro has significantly improved 5G speeds

iPhone has supported 5G connectivity since iPhone 12 in 2020, and Apple continues to improve the experience. New data reveals that the iPhone 15 Pro, which will arrive to customers next week, will have significantly improved 5G performance thanks to its new Qualcomm modem.

This report comes from SpeedSmart and has data from speed tests performed on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon using the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to the report, these devices use Qualcomm’s X70 modem and offer three main improvements:

“The increase in power consumption has been significantly reduced.”
“Improvement of 5G carrier aggregation function”
“Improve connectivity when your iPhone is away from cell towers.”

Considering these benefits, speed test data reveals that iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max offer up to 24% faster 5G speeds compared to the iPhone 14 Pro lineup. Verizon users will see the biggest improvements, followed by T-Mobile and AT&T.

The improvements primarily come in the form of increased download speeds, but there are also “small changes” in upload speeds and improvements in ping times.

All three major networks in the U.S. saw significant increases in download speeds, along with the expected slight increase in upload speeds. The average download speed of 255 Mbps over 5G is quite impressive.

Verizon made the biggest gains with new phones running 24% faster, T-Mobile was a close second with 22% faster speeds, but the national average download speed was 300 Mbps. AT&T had 14.6% faster average download speeds. This shows all three of his networks averaging over 200 Mbps on his 5G across the country, which is pretty impressive.

Qualcomm’s X70 modem is also included in some of the flagship Android smartphones on the market. Notably, Apple is also developing its own 5G modem, which is expected to take several years. Just this week, Qualcomm announced that Apple will continue to use Qualcomm’s 5G modems in iPhones until at least 2026.
