USPS told NewsWest 9 there is a technical issue with the console switch working. Troubleshooting is currently being performed by an external vendor.
BIG SPRING, Texas — Since February 18, Big Spring Post Office customers have been unable to mail packages or complete passport applications (unless prepaid) at the post office.
The U.S. Postal Service says an outside vendor has confirmed that the internet outage is caused by a technical issue with a console switch.
As of February 27, USPS could not provide an estimated time for the issue to be resolved.
“Postal customers who pay with cash may bring prepaid packages and purchase stamps,” USPS said. “This outage does not affect delivery services and customers can continue to receive their notified packages.”
A sign posted at the entrance to the Big Spring Post Office reads, “We apologize for the inconvenience. The internet is down. We are only able to pick up packages until further notice.” I am.
Don White has lived in Big Spring for many years, but since the power outage, he’s been having trouble shipping his belongings.
“I’m not trying to put the post office out of business, but it just seems like an unusual situation that the post office is facing,” White said. “But for the Post Office itself, I would say I’m going to call the IT guys and have them come here and fix it. If I can do it, why can’t a government agency? Especially the Postal Service. For someone as important as the department.”
One city elected official said he had to drive all the way to the Odessa Post Office because of the inconvenience. A power outage prevented my passport reservation.
Jane Calhoun has relied on the Big Spring Post Office for more than 45 years. According to the USPS, the Big Spring Post Office is currently the only facility responding to internet outages.
“I think you have to understand when the internet goes down because everyone has internet issues,” Calhoun said.
The Postal Service uses third-party vendors for Internet services.
