An Arizona couple who amassed 20 million followers with their pink outfits and social videos have announced the end of their relationship.
Kayden Christianson and Alyssa Eckstein, known as the Pink Shirt Couple, shared their breakup on Saturday in a YouTube video titled “We Broke Up.”
The two made the announcement while sitting on a bed facing the camera while wearing their signature pink. The announcement had been viewed about 1.5 million times by Tuesday evening.
“Hello, I really don’t know how to start,” Eckstein, 22, says at the beginning of the video. “Neither do I,” Christianson, 23, added.
“We separated as a couple,” Christianson explains. “We are still very close friends and care deeply about each other.”
Rumors were swirling about the status of the Pink Shirt couple
Christianson admitted that fans of the couple have noticed his absence recently and expressed concern about where he has been. They explained that they simply needed some time to process the breakup before it was announced.
“The most important thing is to work on yourself, and if the other people you care about don’t provide that or help you improve yourself or others,” Christianson said, “the most important thing is to work on yourself. If they do, I think they may need time to themselves or time to separate.”
“I think that’s what’s best for us,” he said. “It doesn’t mean change is bad. Change is good. You have to learn to grow.”
The couple then hugged and appeared emotional, with Eckstein saying: “I still love you very much and care about you and I want what’s best for you.” And he wants the best for me too.”
Eckstein later said she had moved out of the home she shared with Christianson, and the couple listed the home on Facebook as Waddell, an unincorporated suburb of Phoenix.
The couple also said that Christianson had recently been in a car accident, but that it had nothing to do with their breakup. Eckstein said her car was badly damaged and she had bruises under her eyes.
