Donald Trump on Saturday tried to dispute reports that he was “incoherent” when talking about sharks and electric shocks at a recent rally, but some observers said Trump’s attempt to defend his comments was even worse than the original statements themselves.
Trump’s rant about batteries and shark attacks at a rally in early June led online voices to question his mental capacity. Las Vegashe was discussing President Joe Biden’s environmental priorities regarding electric vehicles, but at one point veered into a discussion of shark attacks.
Trump was mocked for these comments and brought them up again in Washington, DC, during a keynote speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s “Path to the Majority” event.

“You heard my story, the story about the boat with the sharks,” Trump told the crowd, “and I got killed for it! They thought I was rambling.”
“I’m not rambling on. They want to build boats but they’re demanding that all their boats be battery powered,” he said, claiming that he then visited boat builders who complained that “they can’t float their boats” because they were being demanded to be electric.
“Then I start talking and asking questions,” Trump continued, adding that he has a relative who is a professor at MIT. Trump went on to ask hypothetical questions about whether the ship could sink and electrocute someone or be eaten by a shark.
“Actually, it’s not a crazy thing, it’s kind of clever,” Trump added at the end of the story.
Trump tried unsuccessfully to defend the incident on social media.
Popular account “Spiro’s Ghost” said: “Amazing. His brain looks like pudding.”
“This is… just… dementia on steroids,” they added. “He has to constantly stress how much his brain is deteriorating because he knows it’s getting worse. So he thinks telling jokes will make him seem normal? It just makes him seem even more dementia-ridden.” [and] Mad!

“Then he somehow gave a rambling version of a speech about electrocution and sharks and boats, and concluded it as a witty story. ‘Not a funny story, but a witty story, right?'” they added.
