Germany’s 5G coverage in July increased by 38.1 percentage points compared to July 2022.
5G networks covered 89% of Germany’s territory as of July, an increase of 5.1 percentage points compared to the 5G coverage registered at the beginning of the year, local newspaper Handelsblatt reported in the country’s Federation. The report cited data from the Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur).
According to the report, nationwide 5G coverage as of July increased by 38.1 percentage points compared to July 2022.
Meanwhile, the national 4G coverage rate reached 97.2% in July, an increase of 0.2 points from January 2023 and 1 point from July 2022.
Among the federal states, Hesse had the worst 5G coverage rate in July at 82.5%. In Bremen, the operator reported his 5G coverage of 99.99% in total.
Among the regional states, Schleswig-Holstein achieved the highest coverage rate at 96.8%, followed by Lower Saxony (92.8%), Saxony (92.5%) and North Rhine-Westphalia (92.1%). It continued.
German carrier Deutsche Telekom recently announced that a total of 9,700 5G antennas in 750 cities are now transmitting in the 3.6GHz spectrum band.
Around 95% of households already have access to Deutsche Telekom’s 5G network, and LTE coverage now reaches 99% of households across Germany.
Last June, Deutsche Telekom announced that it would use spectrum in the 700MHz band for the first time to offer 5G services. The European carrier said the use of the 700 MHz band will improve mobile coverage in rural areas across Germany. In addition to the 700 MHz frequency, there are two radio bands: 2.1 GHz and 3.6 GHz.
Deutsche Telekom said that 5G Standalone (SA) is technically available in the 2.1GHz frequency band, adding that the commercial use of 5G SA for residential customers will begin as soon as the application is available.
Deutsche Telekom began rolling out its 5G network in a limited number of cities across Germany in early July 2019.
Rival operator Vodafone Germany has already deployed 4,300 5G standalone (SA) stations with around 13,000 5G SA antennas across the country.
The company said its 5G SA technology has now reached 45% of the country’s total population. Vodafone has previously said that 5G SA technology will be covered nationwide by 2025. Vodafone pointed out that a total of 14,200 locations with more than 43,000 antennas have already been upgraded to 5G.
The company said its 5G network has already reached more than 90% of Germany’s population, and 43% of smartphones are now in use on Vodafone’s mobile network, up from 26% a year ago. added that it has become a 5G mobile phone.
Meanwhile, O2 Telefonica, owned by Spanish telecommunications company Telefonica, previously announced that its 5G network now reaches 90% of Germany’s population. The carrier said it plans to achieve nationwide 5G coverage by the end of 2025 at the latest.
Newcomer 1&1 recently confirmed that it plans to launch 5G technology over its network infrastructure next year.
