Finland recognizes that next-generation connectivity will play a vital role in driving economic growth through digitalization and sustainability and invites public and private stakeholders from around the world to join the research coalition in the field of 6G development. We are calling on you to cooperate.
Finland has been at the forefront of wireless mobile technology for decades, ever since Nokia launched its first mobile phone in 1982. Building on this expertise and the power of multidisciplinary collaboration, Finland has recently laid the foundations for significant 6G developments and positioned itself as a world leader. A center of pioneering research.
The world’s first large-scale 6G research program, 6G Flagshipwas founded in Finland in 2018. Finland is also leading two of his flagship 6G projects in Europe. HexaX and its successors HexaX-II – Nokia is a project leader in both and also plays a key role in other EU 6G studies.
In May 2023, Finland signed a joint statement on cooperation in advanced wireless communications with the United States and is actively building new international partnerships with other 6G stakeholders.
Currently, a Finnish research team is working on a project to create essential 6G technical components, tools and equipment to build a 6G test network and develop selected vertical applications for 6G to accelerate the digitalization of society. We are working on this.
Within the National Innovation Funding Program 6G bridge, Finland is inviting international system integrators and end users to partner with Finnish 6G companies and researchers to explore opportunities in 6G technology.by Finland aims to support research through funding programs, attract international investment, strengthen key 5G/6G capabilities, and foster 6G testing and experimental facilities.

Finland joins Mobile World Congress 2024
Finland will host a country pavilion at Mobile World Congress 2024, with the participation of three 6G research institutes: Aalto University, Oulu University and VTT (Technical Research Center of Finland), as well as 20 SMEs. The country will highlight some of the use cases and solutions developed by its partners, including smart cities, self-driving cars, telemedicine and industrial metaverses. These are some of the examples of how 6G technology can transform the world and create new value for business and society.
