Telekom guarantees an even better mobile experience and the fastest 5G. To this end, the company has already connected 83 percent of all 5G mobile sites across the country via fiber optics. This high-performance connection between the mobile antenna and the network infrastructure behind it is critical to moving increasing mobile data traffic quickly and reliably within the network. Additionally, Telekom continuously upgrades its mobile network using cutting-edge technology. For example, more than 10,000 5G mobile sites now have fiber-optic connections with speeds of 10 gigabits per second (Gbit/s). This represents about 40% of all Telekom 5G mobile sites. Increased data throughput further increases customer capacity and maximum data rates for each mobile cell. Therefore, you can benefit from additional bandwidth while on the move, especially in locations with high network utilization. Telekom plans to equip more than 28,000 mobile network locations with 10 Gbit/s high-speed connectivity by 2026.

Abdu Mudesir, Chief Technology Officer of Telekom Deutschland, said: “Demand on our mobile networks is constantly increasing. On Telekom’s network alone, mobile data traffic is increasing by around 30% annually.” “Thanks to 5G, not only data volumes but also speeds are increasing rapidly. That’s why we’re not only expanding our network with more and more 5G antennas, but also securing more capacity and speed in our transport network.”

The foundation of 10Gbit connectivity: the latest technology and high-performance nodes

Fiber optics is the most promising, sustainable and powerful data transmission technology. Deutsche Telekom therefore relies almost entirely on fiber-optic connections for its mobile communications transport network. Fiber-optic lines also connect radio sites with the central nodes of the transport network – Telekom’s 900 central switching offices distributed throughout Germany.

A state-of-the-art mobile radio gateway was installed at the mobile radio site to provide fiber optic connectivity plus data rates of 10 gigabits per second. These enable faster data processing during the transition between the transport network and the mobile radio antenna. Such gateways are installed at all new locations and Telekom modernization measures. A prerequisite for this was a new aggregation platform for the national mobile communications transport network. Telekom gradually introduced this to its exchanges starting in 2018, completing the switch in 2022. The new platform aggregates data from Telekom’s more than 36,000 German mobile network sites and ensures that data is transferred extremely quickly, efficiently and reliably across 24 top networks. A level node within a transport network. Among other things, new special router technology was used to meet the high requirements of 5G. This increases bit rates and allows for more and faster data traffic. Mobile network sites with 10Gbit/s connections are also connected to two different central transport network nodes via separate fiber lines. This makes your site especially fail-safe.

Fiber connections and frequencies 5G gigabit speed

5G antennas at the 3.6 GHz frequency are also particularly powerful in telecom networks, as they are almost exclusively connected to transport networks with 10 Gbit/s connections via fiber optics. This means customers can use speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s for surfing, streaming, and high-speed downloads while on the move. More than 750 towns and cities across Germany are already benefiting from the fastest 5G mobile communications. The 3.6 GHz frequency band complements the 5G frequencies in the 700 MHz and 2.1 GHz ranges already in use across Germany in the telecom’s network. The 3.6 GHz frequency ensures particularly high download speeds and smooth mobile coverage, especially in densely populated areas.
In addition to speed, it is also important that all mobile users have access to sufficient 5G power. Telekom achieves this by intelligently using multiple his 5G frequency spectrum per mobile network location. The more frequencies emanating from a location, the more data flowing through it. This will ensure that not only large cities but also telecom customers will have access to sufficient 5G power.

5G speeds up the expansion of mobile phones

Telecoms are focusing on expanding their 5G networks. Never before has mobile technology been adopted so rapidly. Across Germany, 80 million people already have access to Telekom’s 5G network, which is more than 95% of the population. Since the launch of 5G in 2019, the company has deployed or newly built 5G on a total of more than 25,000 mobile 5G network sites across Germany. Currently, in the telecom network he has more than 80,000 mobile antennas transmitting his 5G. And the expansion continues: by 2025, network operators hope to have 5G in place for 99% of the population.

Germany’s biggest and best network

Telekom is not only Germany’s leading 5G network operator, but also ranks among the best in Europe. The latest network test results confirm the company’s network expansion efforts for both 5G and LTE. Telekom’s mobile network is the best in Germany. Stiftung Warentest, Imtest, Smartphone Magazine, Chip, Computer Bild and Connect all named Telekom a test winner. Telekom is the first German network operator to receive an “outstanding” rating for its mobile network from industry magazine Connect (Issue 1, 2023). Telekom is also putting its network leadership to the forefront with its new campaign. The message is: “It’s all about the network. We are the network.” The campaign showcases the diversity of everyday digital moments and highlights what brings people together. In other words, the Net has become an integral part and therefore the digital lifeline of life and work.
