New Delhi: Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer Ericsson and IIT Kharagpur have signed a long-term cooperation agreement for joint research in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), computing and wireless.
In this regard, the two organizations have signed two agreements that will enable Ericsson and IIT Kharagpur researchers to collaborate on developing “new AI and distributed computing technologies for 6G research.”
Ericsson said AI and computing research will help the company’s 6G network as compute offloads need to be dynamically managed at the edge and policies are primarily driven by AI. .
“In our efforts towards Digital India and making India a hub of innovation, this collaboration with Ericsson is highly effective for next-generation technologies. It will enable the applications leveraged to run faster and more efficiently,” said Virendra Kumar Tewari, Director, IIT Kharagpur.
Kumar said that in the 6G era, IIT Kharagpur aims to contribute in radio access technologies and networks, core networks, radio frequency (RF) and device technologies, VLSI design, neuromorphic signal processing, services and applications. Stated. The institute also expects to participate in the telecommunications standardization process, testbed development, prototype development and commercialization, as well as training and development.
“This partnership strengthens our R&D efforts in India and is critical for radio, computing and AI research. We are excited to partner with IIT Kharagpur and look forward to joint research and We look forward to translational research for future network platforms,” said Magnus Frodi, Head of Ericsson Research.
“Ericsson is poised to lead in 6G innovation and in line with our commitment to India, we are making significant R&D investments in India. Given our 5G and technology leadership, our research initiatives , we aim to provide an affordable network platform for ubiquitous connectivity across the country,” added Nitin Bansal, Managing Director, Ericsson India.
