Ericsson has entered into a long-term partnership with an India-based university to research AI and computing technologies, with the broader goal of strengthening research on 6G.
Under the agreement, Ericsson and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur will focus on the use of AI, edge computing and wireless, and the companies will host a conference in India to discuss future network and communications developments.
Major initiatives covering projects exploring “resource optimization, dynamic observability, sustainable distributed and edge computing technologies” and the deployment of AI methods for collaborative communications and sensing have also been set up. I did.
Ericsson’s head of research, Magnus Frodi, attended the event and demonstrated the company’s vision of merging the physical and digital worlds through 6G technology, adding that this collaboration will be a key driver for the vendor’s future network platform. It is expected to support “translational research.”
Reflecting the company’s commitment to the country, Ericsson India’s Nitin Bansal, MD, said the company is “poised to lead in 6G innovation and is making significant R&D investments.”
In October 2023, the vendor implemented a 6G program at its R&D hub in Chennai and assembled a dedicated team of local experts for the project. Ericsson also has research and development centers in Bangalore and Gurgaon.
The Indian government also launched the 6G Alliance in July 2023.
