The account for Elmo, the famous red doll from “Sesame Street,” posted online to celebrate the character’s birthday and shared a message saying Elmo is “doing great” after going viral last week.
“So many of my friends have been asking, and yes, Elmo is fine. It’s Elmo’s birthday! That’s right, baby! Thanks for checking in. Now let’s have a party!” Posted on Platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Elmo recently made headlines for asking a seemingly simple question: How is everyone doing? The account was hit with an outpouring of anger and existential fear from thousands of users who said things weren’t going so well.
As of Wednesday, the post had more than 47,000 reposts, 12,000 replies, and more than 175 million views, drawing reactions from the public, celebrities, members of Congress, and even President Biden.
Elmo then went on talk shows like CNN and the “Today” show to talk about the public’s reaction to his questions. During an appearance on the “Today” show, comedian Larry David stormed off the set and pretended to punch Elmo.
After receiving so many negative messages from users online, Elmo responded, “I’m glad you asked!”
“Elmo has learned that it’s important to ask his friends how they’re doing. Elmo will check in again soon, friends! Elmo loves you,” she wrote with a heart emoji.
