DUNCANNON, Pa. (WHTM) – For people living on Pleasant Grove Road and Dark Hollow Road in Perry County, the lack of internet is a reality.
Cell phone service is hard to come by in this area, but the lack of internet makes it difficult to function. Most of the issues are for customers using Brightspeed Internet.
“We don’t have phone service here,” Randy Gardner said. “Internet is communicated through phone lines. My cell phone in the house is working through his Wi-Fi, but when I try to do anything, it goes off.”
Gardner is not alone. Susan Fulton is also facing problems.
She has been in daily contact with her 91-year-old neighbor, who lost power for several days. She does not yet have a landline phone to use because there is no internet.
When Fulton is not at her house, this is the only way they get back and forth.
“She needs a phone. If she falls, she’ll call and say, ‘I need help getting up,'” Fulton said. “If she doesn’t know she’s down, she can’t get to her.”
The loss of power caused extremely low temperatures.
“It was 42 degrees in the house, so she was curled up in bed, covered all over,” Fulton said.
We called Brightspeed to find out when the power lines were down and our service would be cut off. They told us they were going to resolve the issue on March 1st.
It’s been 18 days since the internet stopped working.
“I don’t know why it’s taking so long,” Gardner said.
Most people pay their bills online, but that can be a problem if no one has internet.
“I just hope they come out of here and do something,” Gardner said.
