The Ministry of Telecommunications is using telecommunications diplomacy to [DoT]The Ministry of Telecommunications of India has been establishing strategic international partnerships and collaborations to build a world-class communications ecosystem to enhance global connectivity and position India as a global leader in digital innovation and infrastructure.
In another step towards redefining the future of global communications, Bharat 6G Alliance recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G IA) and 6G Flagship- University of Oulu. This is an extension of the MoU already signed with NextG Alliance, USA. These MoUs with 6G IA and University of Oulu will further enable development of secure and reliable communications technologies including resilient supply chains. Under the Bharat 6G vision, DoT has already evaluated 470 proposals for “Accelerated Research on 6G”.
These strategic partnerships are important steps towards achieving India’s vision of empowering society through sustainable and advanced communications, while contributing to the global 6G ecosystem.
This MoU will provide India with the opportunity to:
- Connecting EU and Indian R&D companies, academic institutions and research organisations;
- Coordinate research and development efforts for 6G and related technologies;
- Promoting joint research,
- Conducting pilots of 6G technologies and use cases;
- We will collaborate on 6G technology development and contribute to standardization efforts in global forums.
Telecom Diplomacy helps the Ministry of Telecommunications demonstrate India’s commitment to attract new business, forge partnerships with global leaders, nurture domestic startups, drive innovation and ensure India’s leadership position in the global telecommunications sector.
The Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) is an initiative of Indian industry, academia, national research institutes and standards bodies. Its objective is aligned with the government’s Bharat 6G mission to design, develop and deploy technologies and innovations that provide intelligent and secure solutions for quality life experience for citizens in India and across the world. The Bharat 6G Vision manifesto was launched last year and aims to position India as a leading supplier of advanced communication technologies in line with the goal of Viksit Bharat.
The 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) is the European voice of industry and research on next generation networks and services. 6G-IA is active in a wide range of strategic areas, including standardization, frequency spectrum, R&D projects, technical skills, collaboration with key vertical industry sectors (especially test development) and international cooperation.
The 6G Flagship Programme is a world-leading research initiative funded by the University of Oulu and the Research Council of Finland. The programme aims to develop key technological components of 6G, establish a comprehensive 6G test centre and drive the digitalisation of society in the 2030s through groundbreaking 6G research and innovation.
