Air New Zealand has entered into an in-flight connectivity partnership with Starlink to bring free internet on board domestic flights with the aim of “redefining domestic travel” across Aotearoa.
The partnership will first roll out on ATR domestic aircraft in late 2024, with a four- to six-month trial period, and is expected to further expand to the entire fleet in 2025.
Air New Zealand said it plans to expand the use of Starlink Internet on additional aircraft based on trial results.
The company says passengers will be able to access the internet “as if they were in their own lounge at home.”
Air New Zealand, which currently offers in-flight internet on international flights, has highlighted that the majority of its 787s, as well as its newly returned 777s and Neo, are fully Wi-Fi enabled.
Air New Zealand Chief Digital Officer Nikhil Ravishankar highlighted how the partnership will improve the customer experience.
