If there’s one option that’s plentiful these days, it’s smart light strips. However, in most cases you should use standard 2 meter length strips and extensions. Well, ZemiSmart has released something that allows you to buy any dumb LED strip of any length and control it from your smart home via Matter. how? It all gets smarter in the process thanks to a new LED strip controller that lets you wire standard non-smart LED strips.
This new controller allows you to connect basic RGB LED strips or LED strips capable of RBG and white spectrum, commonly referred to as RGBCW strips. The controller also uses Matter over WiFi, so the preferred ecosystem requires a Matter controller, but it doesn’t use Thread, so you don’t have to worry about whether a Thread Border Router is available.
LED controllers aren’t a new product, but they’re not as common as the pre-packaged ones you can buy from companies like Hue, Aqara, and Nanoleaf, just to name a few. However, this is certainly one of the first Matter-enabled controllers on the market.
Returning to power, LED strips are relatively low voltage devices, so the controller typically uses a transformer to step down the voltage from 100-240V AC (depending on location) to 12/24V DC.
