Globalstar announced the commercialization of XCOM RAN, a multipoint radio access network (RAN) that significantly improves spectrum utilization efficiency and enables greater capacity and coverage for high-density 5G wireless applications.
XCOM RAN supports high capacity and seamless mobility that enables optimization of applications such as industrial automation systems, stadium streaming services, enterprise, campus, mining, and augmented reality.
Globalstar’s XCOM RAN was chosen for initial deployment at selected locations by a leading global retailer, delivering at least 4x capacity improvements over traditional private 5G systems on both downlink and uplink . XCOM RAN meets the high-performance, high-reliability requirements of warehouse automation, increasing ease of use and efficiency within a scalable design. Globalstar offers connectivity solutions consisting of hardware, software and services, with some systems scheduled for delivery in 2024.
Built on the Open RAN (ORAN) architecture, XCOM RAN features collaborative processing algorithms that support superior end-to-end system performance, allowing users to quickly and economically Allows for expansion.
XCOM RAN technology is useful for a variety of applications.
XCOM RAN integrates with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and can be easily expanded with additional radio units, delivering significant performance and capacity improvements compared to traditional small cell and DAS systems.
Stadiums and arenas: XCOM RAN technology seamlessly integrates with 5G streaming services, giving fans in stadiums access to high-definition multimedia services.
Enterprise, campus, mining, and high-density wireless deployments: XCOM RAN technology accelerates operations, optimizes private wireless capabilities by supporting AI-driven applications, and helps organizations enhance their 5G experience.
Augmented Reality/Augmented Reality: XCOM RAN technology is integrated with VR head-mounted displays (HMDs) to drive augmented reality content into a variety of applications, from assisting with medical procedures to enhancing navigation and gaming experiences to revolutionizing shopping. Masu.
Paul E. Jacobs, Globalstar CEO
At XCOM RAN, we set out to apply decades of wireless system design experience to create innovative and differentiated performance for private wireless 5G networks and beyond. We significantly increased the amount of data that can be transmitted on a given spectrum allocation while improving other performance metrics. All of this is done within a flexible solution that is ready for future performance improvements. The many benefits of XCOM RAN support initial customer imperatives to control costs and maximize revenue in demanding mission-critical applications.
According to research company Signal Research Group
Unlike traditional in-building solutions such as small cells and distributed antenna systems (DAS), XCOM technology provides extremely high downlink and uplink capacity that is ubiquitous and highly concentrated. Additionally, these performance improvements are achieved within a single logical cell comprised of multiple remote radio units (RRUs). As a result, there is no interference between cells and no interruptions due to cell handovers. Most impressively, the documented bidirectional capacity increase was largely unaffected by device location or concentration within the network.

5G private networks will be used for many applications. XCOM RAN benefits any use case, but stands out when addressing the most demanding KPIs. We are pleased that the launch of our first product marks the culmination of our intensive efforts over the past few years. We are also proud to be one of the world’s largest retailers with our first commercial sale.
