WILLISTON, Fla. (WCJB) – The City of Williston is going online. City leaders announced they’ve decided to proceed with installing broadband internet connection to residents.
Williston City Council approved opening applications for fiber installers after Sept. 3. The city council is expected to select a vendor in November.
The approval follows a study on the proposed internet plan. The consultants suggested moving forward with the plan noting the city already has utility poles and right-of-ways needed for installation of fiber.

IT manager Aaron Mills says the service will be renamed to “Williston Fiber.” Every utility customer, regardless of whether they subscribe to the service, will have fiber lines connected. The network will also be used in the future for advanced metering infrastructure.
The network will be installed at no cost. Internet customers will be offered multiple plans including one gigabit per second (Gbps) upload and download speeds for $49.99. Mills says the service will have no contract and no data limits.
Rather than waiting for the entire city’s fiber to be installed, the service be online and available as soon as their home is connected.
