AUSTIN (KXAN) — What do you think about artificial intelligence (AI)?
Is it helpful? Or will it cause harm?
As AI continues to become a part of many people’s lives, debates continue about how to manage this technology.
KXAN asked South by Southwest attendees what they thought about AI.
“There’s good and bad,” said Vincent Guerrero, who was in town for SXSW.
There are also concerns about deepfakes and the possibility of personal identity theft.
After a fake AI-generated nude photo of Taylor Swift recently circulated online, Washington state lawmakers on January 10 led the draft of the Artificial Intelligence Fake Replica and Unauthorized Reproduction Act.
If this bill passes, bad actors who use generated AI to harm people will be punished.
There are also concerns that AI will take jobs away from human workers.
Nisarga Godekar, who was attending SXSW, said, “I’ve been looking for reports that AI is going to take my job.”
Godeker said he’s not too worried about AI displacing him, but rather sees it as a tool to help humans.
“There are many things that humans can do much better than AI, but there are also some things that we lack that AI can really help us with,” Godeker said.
“Many people are afraid of the old going away and the new coming in,” says Vincent Guerrero. “I think it’s great. I think there will always be new innovations.”
