The Indian Army has created an elite unit to research and evaluate future communication technologies for military use.
The Signals Technology Evaluation and Adaptation Group (STEAG), an elite technology division, researches and evaluates future communications technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, 6G, machine learning, and quantum technologies for defense applications. This was announced by army officials on March 18th.

The establishment of STEAG is part of the Army’s efforts to develop technology for future battlefields.
“STEAG provides customized technology across the full range of wired and wireless systems, including electronic switching, mobile communications, software defined radios (SDR), electronic warfare (EW) systems, 5G and 6G networks, etc., among others. It will be a nursery for cultivation and development,” the military official further said.
“By fostering collaboration and partnerships with academia and industry, we have the ability to leverage niche technologies, leverage cutting-edge solutions, and identify suitable use cases for defense applications. It will be the first and best organization,” they added.

The high-tech division will carry out technical research, evaluation, development and management of core ICT solutions and provide user interface support with maintenance and upgrades of the latest technologies available within the environment, one of the people said.
Army Chief General Manoj Pande has emphasized the need for the military to acquire new technologies in view of the changing nature of warfare.

“In line with the tenets of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Startup India, STEAG will help bridge the gap between the military on the one hand and industry and academia on the other,” military officials were quoted as saying by the news agency. I was told. P.T.I..
