
Violence in Udaipur: In Udaipur, Rajasthan, where religious tensions have risen after a tenth-grader stabbed an underage boy at a government school, local authorities there announced a 24-hour internet shutdown until 10pm on Sunday (August 18).
The District Commissioner (DM) also implemented Section 144 and issued prohibitory orders to maintain law and order in the city.District Commissioner Rajendra Bhatt issued orders to suspend internet services in Bedla, Bhadgaon, Baricha, Devali, Eklingpura, Kanpur, Dhikari and Bhuwana areas of Udaipur for 24 hours from Saturday.
Sources said the time to restore service may be extended if necessary, but leased line services will continue to operate during that time.
Home Minister Jawahar Singh Bedam said the students injured in the clashes were being treated at a hospital under the supervision of senior doctors.
“Our priority is to save the child’s life. The Chief Minister is monitoring the incident. I am in constant touch with the district administration. The government will take stern action against the offenders. I appeal to all to maintain peace,” he said.

A fight between two students sparked communal tensions in Udaipur on Friday. One of the injured students, Devraj, has been taken to hospital for treatment. The suspect fled after attacking his classmates but has now been detained and investigations are ongoing, said District Commissioner Arvind Poswal.
As a mark of protest, Hindu organisations called on shopkeepers in Chetak Circle, Hatipol, Ashwini Bazar, Bapu Bazar and Ghantagarh areas to close their shops. The shopkeepers closed their shops. Mobs pelted stones and ransacked shopping malls in protest against the attack. Vehicles were set ablaze and a large police force was deployed to prevent further untoward incidents.
Police baton charge
Police were forced to use batons to disperse the angry mob. District Commissioner Poswal appealed to residents not to listen to rumours. He, along with Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal, reached the Muslim Brotherhood Hospital where the injured students are being treated.
“The boy will recover soon,” Poswal said. Most of the markets have been closed and police are closely monitoring the situation.
