After Information and Communications Minister Nguyen Manh Hung approved the holding of these bidding sessions in January, four candidates submitted their registration to participate in these sessions.
In accordance with the regulations, only the three telecommunications operators winning the three bidding sessions will receive permission to develop and utilize the three 5G spectrum in the country. Upon acquiring the right to develop and exploit a particular 5G spectrum, a carrier will receive a license to provide mobile communications services.
The Ministry of Information and Communications has selected 2024 for the commercialization of 5G services nationwide. After his three years of piloting this technology, Vietnam’s leading telecommunications company is now able to assess the effectiveness of its current infrastructure and network towards appropriate business plans.
Currently, there are five networks in Vietnam with adequate infrastructure. Namely, Viettel, VNPT, MobiFone, Vietnammobile, and Gtel Mobile. However, most of the domestic market share belongs to the first three companies, which are the ideal candidates to win the 5G rights in the bidding competition.
As the commercialization of 5G services in Vietnam shows signs of profit, Viettel, VNPT and MobiFone all want to accelerate this process, which will accelerate the building of a digital society, economy and government. It is expected that this will happen.
In the latest working session with the Prime Minister, Mr. Thao Duc Tan, General Director and President of Viettel Group, announced that his business plans to cover the entire country with 5G network in 2024. did. It plans to invest nearly VND30 trillion (US$1.22 billion) to strengthen connectivity to remote areas.
Research by well-known telecommunications companies such as Ericsson and Huawei reveals that in the future, 5G will become a physical network of digital connections that connects not only humans but also machines and humans. According to forecasts, Vietnam’s 5G service providers will earn $1.5 billion in revenue by 2030.
After a pilot period in 55 provinces and cities, most mobile users have expressed hope that 5G services will be officially introduced across the country as soon as possible. Therefore, Viettel has put a lot of effort into researching and manufacturing his 5G connectivity terminals and piloting these products in high-tech parks, research centers and universities.
