A shocking incident occurred at the Cohansic Zoo in New Jersey on Sunday, August 18th, when an American woman climbed over the fence and entered the Bengal tiger enclosure. As the tiger came within inches of her, the woman stuck her finger through the inner fence, nearly being bitten by the tiger. The Bridgeton Police Department confirmed the incident on their Facebook page, along with a video showing the woman getting dangerously close to the tiger.
Police have since removed the video from their social media pages, People magazine reported. However, Fox reporter Steve Keeley shared footage of the incident on his X account. In the video, a woman wearing a black top and white shorts is seen standing dangerously close to the tiger, attempting to touch it. The tiger retaliates by slapping the woman’s hand and nearly biting her, but the woman manages to climb over the wooden fence and escape the enclosure. Police are currently searching for the woman who entered the tiger enclosure, according to the outlet.

“Despite signs on the fence at Cumberland County’s Cohansic Zoo clearly stating ‘Do not climb over the fence,’ Bridgeton Police are hoping the public will help identify a woman who was nearly bitten by one of the zoo’s two 7-year-old, 500-pound tigers,” Keeley wrote in the post.

John Medica, recreation and public information director for the city of Bridgeton, said in a statement that the safety of animals, guests and visitors is the “number one priority.”
“Any visitor behaviour that places animals, staff or members of the public in a potentially dangerous situation is unacceptable and will be dealt with accordingly,” Medica added.
Since being shared online, the video has been viewed more than 40,000 times, with various reactions from social media users condemning the woman’s reckless behaviour.
“Too bad they weren’t eaten. Natural selection. I think next time they’ll call in their lawyers and sue the zoo,” one commenter said.

“Police are searching for this idiot who ignored all warnings and nearly killed a tiger,” another added.
According to the zoo’s website, the Bengal tiger involved in the incident was one of two born in 2016 that were later donated to Cohansic Zoo by a zoo in North Carolina.
