United Communications opens fiber optic internet sign-ups for Maury County residents

United announced the new construction project at a recent groundbreaking ceremony in Santa Fe, Tennessee, where team members Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC) and local Maury County Government Officials including Mayor Sheila Bhatt;
DREMC Interim President and CEO Troy Crowell expressed his excitement for the new project in Maury County: “Groundbreaking events usually mean something big is coming to the area, and this one is no exception. It’s exciting to watch Project UNITE continue to connect rural Middle Tennessee to high-speed internet service. Duck River Electric is honored to support this effort in Maury County and the other communities we serve.”
United has officially begun signing up new fiber optic internet customers in Maury County as part of a multi-year, $24.4 million fiber optic expansion investment, bringing much-needed high-speed internet capabilities to the area.
“Over the past three years it has become very clear that better communications are essential for the thousands of adults and students in our county,” explained Mayor Sheila Bhatt, “Duck River Electric, United Communications, the State of Tennessee and Maury County have worked together to make this a reality.”
United Communications and Project UNITE
Project UNITE This is an initiative by United Communications to bring high-speed internet to all of Middle Tennessee. Initiative The company is particularly focused on areas that have historically been underserved or connected by telecommunications companies. Middle Tennessee Electricsecured $53.4 million in broadband infrastructure grant funding on behalf of six county governments through the Tennessee Emergency Broadband Fund.
The largest portion of the grant ($17 million) was awarded to Maury County, which has received an additional $7.4 million from United Communications and the Maury County Commission for a total investment of $24.4 million to bring widespread fiber optic internet connectivity to the region.
“We are committed to ensuring our neighbors receive the fast, reliable internet service they deserve,” said Josh Lynch, chief operating officer for United Communications and Maury County resident. “If you apply now, you can take advantage of the grant to help cover installation costs, which is especially beneficial for homes with long driveways or expensive fiber optic wiring. This is a great opportunity to save money not only on installation costs but also on monthly service costs, while enjoying great customer service at the same time.”
Through grant-funded construction projects, United Communications has committed to bringing internet connectivity to 4,000 Maury County residents by mid-2025. Additional investments from United and the Maury County Commission will expand fiber optic internet to an additional 2,500 locations in the county.
