The two OPPO mobile phones are the world’s first devices to support 5.5G networks. China Mobile announced the commercial launch of its 5G-Advanced, also known as 5.5G, also known as 5GA network. OPPO’s chief product officer then made an interesting admission.
OPPO Find X7 Ultra now supports 5.5G networks even the vanilla model
As a reminder, Pete Lau is the CPO of OPPO. He went to social media and I shared an image of OPPO Find X7 Ultra. The problem is that the device in the picture is running at 5GA, as shown in the signal strength above.
By the way, you can do the same with vanilla OPPO Find X7. Please note that the two phones use the same chip. The “Ultra” model is powered by his Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the vanilla version runs a MediaTek Dimensity 9300 processor.
The list of devices supporting 5.5G networks is expected to grow towards the end of the year. In fact, over 20 devices will support it within a year. Granted, that’s not a lot in a year, but it’s progress.
China Mobile plans to deploy 5.5G covering more than 300 cities by the end of 2024
China Mobile said it plans to roll out a new network covering more than 300 cities by the end of 2024. The first 100 cities, as expected, will focus on the Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou metropolitan areas.
That said, what’s so great about 5G-Advanced networks? They can be up to 300% faster, reaching speeds of up to 10 Gbps downstream and 1 Gbps upstream. As GSM Arena reports, this is the marketing name for 3GPP Release 18.
It will be a while before 5.5G reaches other countries, but it looks like China will be the first to arrive. There are no details regarding other regions at this time.
