TIM Brasil (TIM) has selected Finnish telecommunications vendor Nokia to expand its 5G radio access network (RAN) coverage to 15 Brazilian states starting January 2025. The expansion will increase the availability of 5G connections, allowing more municipalities to benefit from ultra-fast and secure internet access. It will also help local companies strengthen their operations through digitalization, boosting innovation and economic growth, an official announcement said on Monday.

TIM Brazil’s 5G Expansion Initiative
Under the agreement, Nokia will provide TIM with a range of equipment from its 5G AirScale portfolio, including baseband units, Massive MIMO radios and remote radio head products. The devices are powered by Nokia’s ReefShark system-on-chip technology, delivering superior coverage and capacity.
AI in Network Management
Additionally, TIM will deploy Nokia’s AI-driven MantaRay network management system for enhanced network monitoring and management, and Nokia will also provide digital deployment, optimization and technical support services as part of the agreement.

Nokia will modernize TIM’s network with 5G equipment from its AirScale portfolio. The partnership will enable TIM to expand its 5G network in Brazil and provide its customers with the fastest and most reliable 5G connections.
